How to Hook a USB Drive to a TV Box
If you currently have a digital video recorder (DVR), you may have noticed that they do not give you a very big hard drive to store all of your programs. Increasing the amount of disk space allows you to greatly increase the amount of programming you can save on your DVR. You do not have to open the DVR box in order to take advantage of extra disk space. All you need is a universal serial bus (USB) port.
Instructions

Power off your DVR completely.

Connect a USB portable hard drive to the USB slot located on the back of the DVR.

Turn on the USB portable hard drive. If it requires external power, plug it into an outlet.

Power on the DVR. The DVR will recognize a USB drive is attached and ask you to format the drive.
