The advantage of having Skybox/Openbox S9 model over Dreambox DM500s is its HD (High Definition) support besides ability to record the media contents directly into external hard disk or USB thumb drive. However, some users did experience difficulty in getting higher resolution display on their HD LCD TV with maximum resolution stuck at 576i. Assuming that your LCD TV have ability to support HD content display with HDMI input directly from Skybox/Openbox S9, users will need to verify the proper video output selection from Skybox/Openbox S9. The reason is there are RGB and YUV selection with the latter one able to support higher resolution (up to 1080i) while the RGB only capped at 576i.
First, browse to ‘System Setup’ -> TV System. And under the submenu, please verify if the Video Out selection is on ‘RGB’. If yes, then toggle it to ‘YUV’ which should be the correct one that allows the screen resolution to scale up to 1080i_60. Once done, choose the desired Video Resolution and you are done.

How To Load CCcam Card Sharing Into Openbox/Skybox/Hibox/Yumy Using LAN PC
Previously we mentioned about the way to load CCcam card sharing account using remote control or CCcam Config Editor for Dreambox, and we have learned the way to do it by loading from USB thumb drive for Openbox/ Skybox/Hibox or Yumy, but how nice would it be if you can perform the same using PC via Wireless LAN connection, here are some simple steps that you can follow to get it done.
1.First, download STBHD_LAN_MM utility package (consisting of CCcam.cfg, CCcam.prio, CCcam.channelinfo, constant.cw and etc).
2.Then launch it with both PC and Openbox/ Skybox/Hibox or Yumy S9 HD decoder connected in the same LAN network (either wired or wirelessly).
3.Key in the decoder IP address into BOX IP field as seen from TV screen (under Menu -> Network Setup) and password as ‘0000’ (default). Then login the system. A message of “Login oK.:)” will appear on the screen indicating the successful connection established.
4.By now, check for the Local File List and Box File List on left and right of the screen, which represents local hard disk and decoder storage respectively.
5.Click on CCcam plug under Local File List to open up the sub tree view and you will notice the CCcam.cfg. This is the new card sharing stored in your local PC (same directory as where the STBHD_LAN_MM is). And click on the green arrow button will copy it into the Openbox/ Skybox/Hibox or Yumy.
6.Save it and restart the Openbox/ Skybox/Hibox or Yumy and you are done.

We have mentioned about the way on how to configure Dreambox to connect multiple dishes using diseqc switch, but in case you would like to do the same for Skybox/Openbox S9 HD PVR satellite decoder, below are some simple steps that you can try.
Follow below steps to get it done:
1.Go to Menu -> Installation -> Satellite List and you will notice that there are a huge lists of satellite channels that you can configure.
2.Browse on any of the desired one, and tap on Green button to add them in. Repeat the same step for any additional satellites that you want to receive (assuming that you already have correct dish positioning pointing to each of them, or motorized dish setup).
3.Tap on Exit button and go to Antenna Setup. Over here, configure the right LNB Freq and respective DiSEqC port and observe the signal intensity and quality level for each of them. Take note that if you miss the above step, some of the selection will be grey out.
4.Once done, tap on Exit again and do a single or multiple satellite scan so that all of them are stored and appear in your channel lists.
5.Tap on ‘Save’ and you are done.

How To Setup Movie Recording Schedule Timer On Skybox/Openbox S9 HD PVR
Previously we mentioned about the way on how to record favorite movies using Skybox S9 HD PVR into USB thumbdrive and if you are curious to find out how you can setup a schedule to start the recording activities automatically in certain time, here are some simple steps that you can follow to set that up.
Follow below steps and you are ready to record your favorite movies:
1.Go to Menu -> System Setup -> Timer Setting and you will notice that there are actually 8 timers that you can use for recording events.
2.Tap on any of them, follow by OK button will prompt up a Timer setting available for configuration.
3.Fill in the particular at your own preference. For instance, users can configure the timer mode, either you want it to be once or Daily in repeated mode, perform a channel switch or purely a recording on specific channels under timer service, put in the Wakeup channel that you prefer, but also not limited to the detailed information such as the exact date, time on when to trigger the action.
4.Tap on ‘Save’ and you are done.

How to Flash Dreambox Via a Network
If you have a Dreambox, a digital set-top box for your television - then you can flash the firmware to upgrade it. Dreambox devices are based on the Linux operating system and so can easily be flashed to later versions of the operating system. To flash your Dreambox firmware image, you must transfer the image to your Dreambox over your network via the file transfer protocol, or FTP, and then use the remote for the final stages of the flashing process
Instructions
Download your image either from the Dreambox site or from a third-party utility site. Select the file once downloaded and press "Ctrl"+"C."

Click "Start," then "Computer." Click "Map network drive." Click "Connect to a Web site..." Type in your Dreambox's Internet Protocol address, which is contained in your Dreambox documentation. Click "Connect."

Double-click the "tmp" folder. Press "Ctrl" and "V" to paste the image. Right-click the file and click rename. Rename the file to "root.cramfs" and close the FTP window.

Press "Setup" on your Dreambox remote, select "Software Update" and then "Manual Update." Click "OK." Once the flash has finished you will have flashed the firmware via your Ethernet network.

The DreamBox 500S is a satellite receiver designed to play free-to-air programming produced in an MPEG-2 or MPEG-1 video format. The receiver does have a USB port, which allows you to update the installed firmware whenever there is a newly released upgrade for the hardware. Adding a USB device to the DreamBox 500S only takes a minute or two to complete.

Instructions
Power down the DreamBox 500S. The hardware must be turned off before adding a USB device.

Plug the USB hardware into the USB port of the DreamBox 500S, located on the back of the receiver.

Power on the receiver and it automatically detects the connected USB device, uploading any upgrades or firmware saved on the hardware.

Disconnect the USB flash drive from the receiver once a prompt appears on the screen, stating the upload has finished

How to Use Dreambox on an Existing Dish Network Setup
The Dreambox is a Linux-based satellite receiver, designed to function with FTA (free-to-air) satellite systems. FTA is a free subscription network used to obtain unscrambled satellite signals, similar to how an antenna receives unscrambled television signals. With the Dreambox you are able to use the satellite receiver with any satellite configuration, including Dish Network. However, because the receiver accepts different satellite signals, you are going to obtain different television programming.This is mainly due to Dish Network receivers accepting scrambled satellite signals while Dreambox receivers only accept unscrambled signals.

Instructions

Plug the coaxial cable running from the Dish Network satellite dish into the "In" port on the rear of the Dreambox.

Insert the RCA audio/video cables into the "Video Out" Ports on the Dreambox receiver. These are the same cables used to send the video and audio signals from the original Dish Network receiver.

Attach the other ends of the RCA audio/video cables into the "Video In" ports on the television.

Power on the Dreambox receiver and the television. Select "Video" on the TV, and the Dreambox video signal loads onto the screen.

How to Share a DreamBox
If you have a DreamBox digital video recorder, then you can record live TV to your DVR unit at will. One of the great advantages of a DreamBox over other DVR units is the ability to transfer that data easily to your computer. If you connect the DreamBox to your home network, you can set up a file transfer protocol connection to the device. Once set up, you can either repeat this process on other computers to share with or set up that FTP site to be shared via your computer.

Instructions

Connect your DreamBox to the network via an Ethernet cable. Press "Menu," and then open "Setup." Open "Communication Settings." Make a note of the "IP Address."

Click "Start," and then click "Computer." Click "Map network drive."

Choose a drive letter, and then click "Connect to a Web site..."

Type "ftp://" (without quotes), followed by the DreamBox IP address into the field, and click "OK." Enter "root" as the username, and "dreambox" as the password. Click "Finish."

Right-click the FTP connection, click "Properties," and then click "Sharing." Click "Share."

How to Connect a Dreambox to a PC
Though a Dreambox is a Linux-based entertainment computer designed to work primarily with your cable connections, so as to provide you with access to high-definition television, it can also be used with your computer. This means you can stream content from your computer -- including Internet content -- directly to the Dreambox. To connect a Dreambox to a PC, however, your computer must have either a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet module or wireless Internet functionality.

Instructions
Connect an Ethernet crossover cable from the Dreambox's 10/100 Ethernet port to your computer's 10/100 Ethernet port. Whereas conventional Ethernet cables connect computers to modems and routers, Ethernet crossover cables connect computers to other computers.

Use a standard Ethernet cable to connect the Dreambox to your Internet modem or router. If you have an operational broadband network and your computer is connected to it, then you can connect the Dreambox to your computer by merely plugging it into the same modem or router.

Plug a wireless USB adapter into the Dreambox if you have a wireless network setup in your home. As long as your computer is also connected to the wireless network, either by an Ethernet cable or wirelessly, you'll be able to access your computer from the Dreambox.

Configure the Dreambox's connectivity by navigating to the "Communications Setup" screen under the "Expert Setup" menu and configuring your Default Gateway. If you used Step One, the Default Gateway will be your computer's IP address. If you used Step Two or Step Three, then the Default Gateway will be either 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1, depending on the router or modem's manufacturer.

How to Program a Dreambox 500
The Dream Multimedia DM 500 HD Dreambox is a receiver that receives cable and satellite digital TV and radio programming. It has a 400 MHz processor, 256 MB of RAM, and an eSATA jack to attach an external hard drive. The Dreambox allows unlimited channel lists for television or radio, and channel change time is less than one second. It allows you to switch the receiver input from multiple low-noise blocks (LNBs) to receive programming from a number of satellites.

Press the "Menu Button" on the remote control and press "Setup." Press the "OK" button. Highlight "System Settings" and press "OK." Scroll down On-Screen Display (OSD) language and press "OK." Highlight your language for the OSD. Press "OK" to activate it, then "Exit."

Press the "Menu Button" on the remote and select "Setup." Press the "OK" button. Choose "System Settings" and press "OK." Press "Time Settings" and "OK." Highlight "Timezone Configuration" and press "OK." Press the "OK" button again to get a list of time zones. Scroll through the time zones until you find yours and press "OK." Highlight "Save" and press "OK" to save your time zone.

Press the "Menu Button" on the remote control and press "Setup." Press the "OK" button. Highlight "Service Searching" and press "OK." Highlight "Automatic Transponder Scan" and press "OK." Select your satellite or cable provider in the drop-down menu and press "OK." You will see the Signal-to-Noise ratio, Automatic Gain Control and Bit Error Rate of the transponder the Dreambox has located. Highlight "Start Scan" and press "OK." The Dreambox will scan the transponder and report the TV, radio, and data services it has located.

Press the "Menu Button" on the remote and select "Setup." Press "OK." Highlight "System Organizing" and press "OK." The Dreambox allows you to organize your programming into groups, called "bouquets." Highlight "Create New Bouquet" and press "OK." Enter a name for the new bouquet using the remote control. The yellow "Options Button" will toggle between capital and lower-case letters and the blue "Options Button" will toggle between letters and numbers. When you have named your bouquet, press "OK." Highlight "Add Services To Bouquet" and press "OK." Select a bouquet type from TV, Radio and File. Press "OK." Select the provider, press "OK" and select your services. After highlighting each new service to add to the bouquet, press the "OK" button. Previously selected services are highlighted in red. Press the "Exit" button when you have selected all your services
